CONCERT DE L'ORCHESTRE PHILHARMONIQUE DE MARSEILLE CLAP DE FIN

Written for London’s Royal Philharmonic Society, which had commissioned Beethoven’s Ninth, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 10 is unfinished. Musicologist Barry Cooper completed it. A curiosity.

Schönberg, too, did not finish his Chamber Symphony No. 2. He returned to it later, reconnecting with the tonal system. Like Beethoven, Mendelssohn made a gesture toward Great Britain, drawing inspiration from the Highlands in his Scottish work and dedicating it to Queen Victoria.

LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 10 in E-flat major

ARNOLD SCHÖNBERG Chamber Symphony No. 2, Op. 38

FELIX MENDELSSOHN Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 56, known as “Scottish”
