CONCERT DE L'ORCHESTRE PHILHARMONIQUE DE MARSEILLE SUR LE DANUBE
Symphony concert
Called “Funeral,” Haydn’s Symphony No. 44 belongs to the pre-Romantic “Sturm und Drang” movement (“Storm and Stress”). Haydn is said to have requested that the Adagio be played at his funeral.
Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 is sometimes called “Pastoral” or “Viennese.” The waltz in the first movement is one of Brahms’s finest themes. Sándor Veress was Bartók’s student and Ligeti’s teacher. His Four Transylvanian Dances are true to life.
