Conférence & projection par Marie-Claire Rubinstein « Documentaire sur Fernand Pouillon »
About this event
Director of four documentaries about architect Fernand Pouillon, Marie-Claire Rubinstein invites us to rediscover the work of this major figure in 20th-century architecture through the film Fernand Pouillon, une architecture habitée – Provence 1947-1953 (48 min). Through residents’ accounts and the perspective of urban philosopher Thierry Paquot, this documentary traces several of the architect’s landmark projects in Provence in the aftermath of the Second World War. From the construction of La Tourette in Marseille to the reconstruction of the Vieux-Port, and including the village of Les Sablettes in La Seyne-sur-Mer, which was marked by the bombardment of Toulon harbor, the film reveals the scale of a body of work that profoundly transformed urban landscapes and the lives of their residents. The journey continues in Aix-en-Provence, focusing on the construction of 200 homes, with a contribution from Léon, a familiar figure to regulars at the Café des Deux Garçons. Beyond architecture, this film highlights a deeply human vision of the city, attentive to how spaces are used, to places where people live, and to those who inhabit them. An invitation to look anew at Provence’s architectural heritage and better understand Fernand Pouillon’s legacy, of which the Musée Regards de Provence itself occupies an emblematic building: the former Maritime Health Station, designed in 1948.
