Lecture by Emmanuel Laugier. On Thursday 13 November 1919, the 18th-century Grand Theatre was devastated by fire. Architect Gaston Castel’s project was selected for its reconstruction, giving rise to a building that combined modernity with classical heritage. This lecture looks back at this architectural adventure, the history of the Opera, its sets and the artists who contributed to its renewal.
