Fleurette
A delightful opéra-comique originally composed for Vienna, full of treasures of tenderness and madness...
About this event
OFFENBACH
Jean-Christophe Keck, a leading Offenbach specialist, pairs one-act operettas with short musical works composed by Offenbach around the same time, much to the audience’s delight!
Fleurette Coquenjoie, a young seamstress, is summoned to urgently alter Madame Étoile’s costume for a performance before Louis XV. Her jealous lover Jolicœur catches up with her and joins her for a long, lavish meal provided by the concierge Binet. As a result, the work is not finished in time, and the performance has to be canceled. But the Duchess of Châteauroux, delighted that Madame Étoile has been “eclipsed,” rewards Fleurette with 50 louis. All ends well: Fleurette marries Jolicœur the next day, and Binet becomes a wedding attendant.
