About this event
Les Bons Moments are residency showings, opportunities for artists and companies hosted at ZEF to open their work to the public. These special occasions, in small groups, offer a chance to discover the creative process in different forms.
Angélique Zaini Compagnie du 7e étage
In a karaoke setting, Angélique Zaini, a French-Indonesian artist, shares with the audience the difficulties she faces in living with her dual culture and the strategies she has developed to reclaim her story and origins, to build herself despite the silences, and to reconcile with herself... Heppines is cheap is an attempt at reconciliation and healing, where audience members are invited to sing together, joyfully and collectively embracing the universal question of the search for oneself.
“I am French-Indonesian. I have always felt French, but for a long time I suffered from not feeling Indonesian. My father did not pass his culture on to me. I don’t speak the language. In September 2023, I finally decided to return to Indonesia alone to meet my family there, whom I had had no contact with. I came back changed, truly transformed from within. Music played a decisive role. Thanks to it, I was able to reconnect with my Asian side.”
In Heppines is cheap, Angélique Zaini explores the question of mixed heritage. She shares her difficulties in living with her dual culture and her journey to reclaim her Indonesian side. On this inner journey, she seeks to reclaim her story and origins, to build herself despite the silences, and to reconcile with herself. Heppines is cheap is an attempt to find peace that also paints a deeply personal portrait of Indonesia. In a karaoke setting, Heppines is cheap invites audience members to sing together, joyfully and collectively embracing the universal question of the search for oneself.
