Pop concert With Offering, Ibeyi reconnects with the free and spontaneous instinct of its beginnings. After more than a decade of success—endorsed by Beyoncé and Orelsan, appearing on Tiny Desk and COLORS, touring the biggest stages and capped in summer 2023 by a memorable Olympia show—the Diaz twins have seen their momentum weakened by the pressure of algorithms and often clumsy marketing strategies. Although Offering, as is often the case in their work, draws on an imagination nourished by Yoruba religion, these references should not distract from what matters most: the Diaz sisters tell a more intimate, less symbolic story, speaking for the first time with one voice. Between sacred minimalism, analog textures, tweaked percussion and transformed vocals, they have created an album that is sometimes completely stripped back and sometimes more massive, with physicality and raw energy flowing through every track. Newly independent, they brought together a group of producers from hip-hop, the underground and alternative pop (Khalil, Jason Pounds, Zach Ezzy, pablopablo, Jack Peñate), replacing their longtime collaborator Richard Russell. A unanimous, deeply transformative decision. For two years, Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé pursued the same artistic clarity—through good and bad musical “dates”—until their decisive meeting with Michael Brun, who serves as the album’s executive producer. By stepping away from the outside gaze for a while, Ibeyi rediscovered what matters most: play.
