About this event

The current century is characterized by a great diversity of forms of communication—amplified by the advent of the internet and social media—which exist within a complex landscape shaped by the globalization of phenomena, market integration and rapid technological progress. At the heart of the changes and challenges in this world, the values and goals underpinning the European project remain strong and widely shared, even if they are sometimes questioned. Two essential themes for media practice lie at the heart of these values—which concern our freedom to choose the kind of society and democracy in which we wish to live: press freedom and the fight against disinformation.

This event will therefore be an opportunity not only to recognize this necessity and celebrate our shared values, but also to exchange ideas with communication and journalism professionals. They will address interconnected issues such as freedom of criticism and investigation, source verification and the fight against disinformation, answer questions from the public, and outline avenues for analysis as well as guidelines for engaging with the media.

With guests:

Renate Schroeder (Director of the European Federation of Journalists) Alexandre Joux (Aix-Marseille School of Journalism and Communication) Frédéric Lemaître (Le Monde)

An event by the EUNIC Marseille Network, presented by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura de Marseille, Goethe-Institut Marseille, Bibliothèque de l'Alcazar and Aix-Marseille School of Journalism and Communication.
