Les Soirées de l’AFRET avec Dr Anna PARÉ
About this event
“When the place of care excludes” — Starting from an article about patients being excluded from mental health care programs, we will explore what is at stake in these limit situations and how they can become the starting point for new ways of reorganizing our places of welcome.
Title: On exclusion: practicing mental health care through the transformative effects of its margins Summary: We invite you to a presentation and discussion about the exclusion of people from mental health and psychiatric care settings: what is at stake when another person’s presence becomes so difficult to bear that it leads to the decision to exclude a patient? This event will first revisit the historical and cultural continuities between psychiatric institutions and systems of social exclusion, particularly penal systems, before opening up a discussion with theoretical fields rarely called upon in psychiatry — new materialisms, non-penal justice, institutional psychotherapy and the psychoanalytic concept of the anarchic drive. A clinical case study will ground the discussion in the realities of institutional life. Together, we will examine our own moralizing reflexes, the material and discursive conditions that produce these limit situations, and, above all, how they might become the starting point for new ways of reorganizing our places of welcome. Care professionals, researchers and anyone concerned by these questions are warmly invited to share their thoughts, experiences and disagreements in a spirit of collective collaboration.

“What am I doing here, what am I making? What action?”
The association offers a space for everyone to ask questions and share experiences from our everyday clinical practice at the hospital and in psychiatry, at a time when economic and political concerns make it difficult to take a step back.
