The Team Malmousque association was founded by Marseille open-water swimmers with a passion for the sea. We swim all year round, with only a pair of goggles between us and the waves, the fish and the elements. As a result, we are also the first to witness changes in the marine environment, its pollution, and fluctuations in fish populations. We see firsthand the effects of coastal cities and global climate change on the marine environment. For this reason, our association has decided to dedicate itself to protecting the sea by raising public awareness and organizing beach cleanups, among other environmental activities.
L'Odyssée Massalia ( 2017-2019) was created by Team Malmousque and is the first environmentally friendly swimming competition in the region. We took numerous measures to limit our environmental impact while promoting environmental protection: limiting our carbon footprint by working with local partners or encouraging carpooling and public transportation; offering refreshments made from organic and vegetarian foods supplied by our partner Bio-Veyre; prohibiting the distribution of plastic bags, plastic cups or plastic bottles in favor of recyclable and biodegradable products; outfitting our volunteers in organic T-shirts printed in Marseille; providing ecological toilets; and organizing a cleanup event at Les Goudes after the race in three different areas: on the beach with the public and volunteers; on the water's surface, including with members of Team Malmousque; and underwater with our partner « Un Océan de Vie », through scuba diving.
