Les suppliques
About this event
Les suppliques refers to the letters sent by members of Jewish families to the administration of the Vichy regime in the hope that their requests would be heard. Here, they are presented as a staged reading by the Birgit Ensemble.
Staged reading by the Birgit Ensemble.
Les suppliques refers to the letters sent by members of Jewish families to the administration of the Vichy regime in the hope that their requests would be heard. These letters are the starting point for an investigative and adaptation project by the Birgit Ensemble: tracing the authors of these forgotten letters, the performers bring five letters and five destinies to life.
Those of Rachel Schleifer, Renée Haguenauer, Alice Grunebaum, Léon Kacenelenbogen and Charlotte Lewin.
Thus, excerpts from some of their supplications reassemble glimpses of lives perceived through these striking testimonies.
