There is indeed an Argentine miracle whose source lies in Naples. There, a “Leonardo da Vinci” of piano pedagogy emerged: Vicenzo Scaramuzza, who emigrated to Buenos Aires and trained around forty great pianists. Among them were Martha Argerich, Bruno Leonardo Gelber, Daniel Barenboim’s father and Carmen Scalcione. The latter passed on to Nelson Goerner the secrets of a natural pianism that follows the physiology of the human body to reach spiritual transcendence.
At 17, Nelson Goerner won the Franz Liszt Competition in Buenos Aires. The following year, Martha Argerich heard him play and offered him a scholarship to study with Maria Tipo in Geneva. He soon went on to win the renowned Geneva Competition unanimously. His career has developed slowly and steadily in the world’s greatest concert halls.
