Parcours permanent du [mac] - 30 ans de collection - La collection et ses invités

The [mac] collection brings together works from artistic movements that emerged from the 1960s to the present day.

Comprising around one thousand objects, it has its historical and conceptual origins in the break brought about by the Nouveaux Réalistes. Its other highlights include groups of works related to Narrative Figuration, Arte Povera, American conceptual and performance art, Fluxus and Supports Surfaces. You will see works by César, Arman, Raymond Hains and Martial Raysse, as well as works by Paul Thek, Franz West and Gaetano Pesce.

The collection includes paintings, sculptures, photographs, films and installations. Its presentation, revisited according to temporary displays, creates links between the various exhibitions during guided tours.

After the Parade. The collection exhibition continues and reinvents the inaugural presentation, "Parade", conceived in 2023 for the reopening of the [mac]. Over the course of acquisitions and the life of the museum, the permanent display unfolds the links between works and a cultural and social history of contemporary art from the 1960s to the present day. Throughout the visit, the collection exhibition explores the renewed issues of contemporary painting, the emergence of new gestures and materials, the appearance of artistic forms in unusual places, the blurring of identities, and the interplay between reality and fiction as a way of confronting reality. New sections of the display also showcase the arrival of "l’Invisible" by Julien Berthier, as well as an installation by Franz Erhard Walther completely rethought for activation with the public. Finally, throughout 2027, works by women artists and/or artists from outside Europe recently added to the [mac] collections will be made visible.
