About this event
Through this event, which includes a screening, E. Brodacz and É. Belvallette invite us to discover the life of this talented artist, whose sensitive and colorful work reflects a deeply human view of the world around him.
Marcel Leprin is one of the most endearing figures of the School of Montmartre. A painter with an unusual life story, he drew inspiration from everyday life, bustling streets, popular cafés and the people of Montmartre, while retaining a deep connection to the southern landscapes that shaped his youth. He liked to sum up his approach in these words: « I don’t paint; I tell stories with paint. » Through this event, which includes a screening, Emmanuelle Brodacz and Éric Belvallette invite us to discover the life of this talented artist, whose sensitive and colorful work reflects a deeply human view of the world around him. The fruit of several years of research, their work helps us better understand Marcel Leprin’s personality, inspirations and pictorial world. He achieved a degree of recognition during his lifetime before gradually falling into obscurity. With a catalogue raisonné in preparation, this talk offers an opportunity to rediscover an engaging body of work, spanning scenes of Parisian life and southern light, and to give a still too little-known artist his rightful place.
