Voix Publiques - Louisa Babari

A sound creation to be experienced at the [mac] musée d’art contemporain / Centre de la Vieille Charité / Musée Cantini / CIPM. “Voix Publiques” is a sound installation intended for public spaces. The installation consists of recordings of poetic texts performed by artists from the African continent and the diaspora. A sound piece composed of voices, “Voix Publiques” is a program that reflects the diversity of poetic writing and interpretation. It aims to break down barriers in the perception of texts and to highlight interpretations. “Voix Publiques” gives priority to the participation of authors from different generations originating from the African continent. The performers are poets, lyrical artists or spoken-word artists, visual artists, singer-songwriters, actors, or simply poetry enthusiasts and readers. Designed to be presented outdoors—in streets, squares and green spaces—Voix Publiques reconnects with a tradition of popular poetic dissemination, at the heart of the city and its neighborhoods, allowing audiences to hear poetic literature in its diverse forms and in different languages. Authors and performers join their voices and breaths and take part in a program in which the African continent looks at and speaks about the world. “Voix Publiques” is a work and program conceived with a collaborative dimension. The work and the poetic dissemination program are intended to be enriched by the artistic contributions that emerge during their implementation and presentation in the various venues concerned. In its desire to consider and promote local poetic output, “Voix Publique”s incorporates two dimensions: the work and the program are both an archive and a living memory of poetic literary production, whether text or voice. For Saison Méditerranée 2026, “Voix Publiques” focuses on the poetic output of African countries bordering the Mediterranean, with a focus on Algerian poetic creation.
