Voix Publiques - Louisa Babari

"Voix Publiques" is a sound installation designed for public spaces. It consists of recordings of poetic texts performed by artists from the African continent and the diaspora. A sound piece made up of voices, "Voix Publiques" is a program that reflects the diversity of poetic writing and interpretation. It aims to open up how texts are perceived and to promote their interpretation. "Voix Publiques" prioritizes the participation of authors from different generations who come from the African continent. The performers are poets, lyrical artists or spoken word artists, visual artists, singer-songwriters, actors, or simply poetry enthusiasts and readers. Designed to be presented outdoors—in streets, squares and green spaces—Voix Publiques renews a tradition of popular poetic dissemination in the heart of the city and its neighborhoods, bringing the public poetry in its many forms and languages. Authors and performers join their voices and breaths in a program in which the African continent looks at and speaks about the world.

"Voix Publiques" is a work and program conceived with a collaborative dimension. The work and the poetry program are intended to be enriched by artistic contributions that take shape as it is installed and presented in the various venues involved. With the aim of exploring and promoting local poetic production, "Voix Publique"s incorporates two dimensions: the work and the program together constitute both an archive and a living record of poetic literary production, whether in text or voice. For Saison Méditerranée 2026, "Voix Publiques" focuses on the poetry of African countries along the Mediterranean, with a focus on Algerian poetic creation.
