This play gives a rare place to women’s voices: that of a woman whose foundations are wavering, and those of teenage girls discovering love and sexuality. Joséphine, a French teacher from Réunion, teaches in Marseille. In her high school, adolescent desires clash: attractions, rivalries, provocations and silences. During a class, a heated exchange between girls and boys unsettles the class’s balance and awakens an old trauma in Joséphine, buried since adolescence. Through choral writing combining humorous classroom scenes, intimate stories and flashes of memory, the play explores desire, consent, violence and emancipation. This show tells the story of a woman’s late reconstruction and the power of speech and dialogue between generations. Catherine Verlaguet’s text delicately builds bridges between consent, sexual violence and colonization, revealing how bodies and territories bear the traces of their history.
