Takashi Ito, la mémoire des murs | Programme de courts-métrages

Editorial
Unlike the political approaches to landscape—“fukei-ron”—that shaped part of radical Japanese cinema in the 1960s and ’70s, viewing landscape as a reflection of the power relations that produce it, Takashi Ito offers a far more subjective vision of urban environments. Over 20 years, he made around fifteen short films with absolutely stunning visuals: a maelstrom of technical feats and endlessly interwoven forms aimed at deconstructing everyday space. Constantly situated at the crossroads of animation and live action, Takashi Ito offers a hypnotic, psychedelic experience, bordering on epileptic, drawing viewers into a whirlpool of supernatural illusions.
With each film, Ito reveals a little more about the unconscious obsessions hidden behind his formal obsessions. Gradually, his highly formalist approach unveils a deeply intimate discourse, like a filmed diary, in which the deconstruction of everyday places becomes a deconstruction of the self, making way for mysterious ghostly figures. Spaces of banality become unstable, haunted mental territories, which his cinema deconstructs to the point of vertigo.
