Territoires familiers – Mathilde Bonbon
With Territoires familiers, artist Mathilde Bonbon explores Marseille and its coastline through cartography and watercolor, leading to a new series in which landmarks give way to gesture, color and material.
About this event
With Quartalo, Mathilde Bonbon continues to explore territory as material to be interpreted, at the boundary between representation and perception.
Using watercolor, she creates pared-back compositions in which the precision of cartographic lines engages in dialogue with the fluidity of color. Marseille, its neighborhoods, coastline and Calanques become the starting point for a body of work in which landmarks are simplified and the eye moves freely.
The exhibition also presents Outre mer, a new series in which representation fades further. Names and lines disappear, giving way to gesture, rhythm, transparency and color.
From cartography to non-figuration, the exhibition is thus threaded by one question: what remains of a territory when its landmarks are gradually removed?
