EL CID ! AFTER CORNEILLE 1h30 | Ages 8 and up Directed by Philippe Car
With: Philippe Car, Lucie Botiveau, Anaïs Delmas, Nicolas Delorme and Vincent Trouble
Drawing on the cultural and musical influences of a three-month journey, developed on the road through Spain and Morocco, and conceived as a thriller, El Cid ! blends tragedy with the fantastical and the comic. The action unfolds on a dreamlike carousel, as in a fairy tale… The presence of Alonzo, a narrator and bumper-car taxi driver played by all five actors, provides a fresh perspective on Corneille’s text and ideas. Must honor be defended?
The music, performed live by all the actors, accompanies the action like a film score and gives the show an atmosphere that shifts between the epic and Spanish music hall.
★ Press ★ El Cid ! is a dazzling show, bringing the joy and warmth of fairground theatre into venues and under the big top. — Stradda An exhilarating performance. A theatrical world to discover without delay! — Françoise Sabatier, Télérama
