Un virage pour Jacky

A subjective, dance-based portrait of Jacky Medefo, this solo is rooted in the traditional dances of Cameroon, where he comes from, and in the corridors of queer stages. A dance entirely his own emerges, charged with every emotion in the world. Jacky Medefo was born to dance. He arrived in France from Cameroon at the age of 11, already inspired by the dances passed down by the women in his family and by music videos seen on television. Meeting Magda Kachouche led them to create a subjective portrait of the dancer in this show. Another movement is explored: a dance that would belong only to Jacky. Its feet would be rooted in the sacred forest of his ancestors, while drawing inspiration from the pop-culture dances that nourished him so abundantly. His dance would have no gender, opening up possibilities. Jacky’s dance comes at once from family traditions, discovering dance at school, the queer scene and encounters with contemporary choreographers. Jacky’s dance is all of this—and his alone.
