Mar Nostro, UV LAB’s work, explores the Mediterranean as a shared space shaped by flows, migrations and exchanges as part of the 2026 Mediterranean Season. Art installation Mar Nostro, UV LAB’s work, explores the Mediterranean as a shared space shaped by flows, migrations and exchanges. Its title twists the historical expression Mare Nostrum — “our sea” — turning it into a contemporary question: who are “we” today? Who does this sea belong to? The pavilion is organized around three passages evoking Africa, Asia and Europe. The architecture favors movement over borders and porosity over enclosure. The pattern unifies Mediterranean cultures in a contemporary language, between solid and void, relief, light and color, forming a changing script according to movement. Inspired by Lingua Franca, the hybrid language of Mediterranean ports, the project pays tribute to the shared culture that shapes us, to those who have crossed this sea and to those who have lost their lives in it. A work created as part of the 2026 Mediterranean Season by UV LAB, an interdisciplinary design and architecture laboratory based at the Cité des arts de la rue. Co-productions: City of Marseille, Institut français and Lieux Publics, national center for street arts and public space, and the International Production and Distribution Hub. Created with the collaboration of the stunt performers from the social-integration worksite at the Cité des arts de la rue.
