Pression hyperBar ! Une seule santé : et si tout était lié ?

A relaxed after-work event with scientists, to remake the world for the better. Does our health depend solely on our lifestyle and healthcare system? Or is it also intimately linked to that of animals, plants, soil, water, the climate and, more broadly, the ecosystems of which we are part? The “One Health” approach is based on a simple idea: human health, animal health and ecosystem health are deeply interdependent. Recent crises — the Covid-19 pandemic, the emergence of new diseases, air and water pollution, biodiversity loss and the increase in extreme weather events — remind us that the boundaries we long established between health and the environment have now largely been surpassed. But how can this idea be translated into practice? How can we move from a concept to concrete action? And above all, how can we think about health not only at the scale of the individual, but also at the scale of cities, regions and ecosystems? Through this discussion, Pression Hyperbar proposes opening a debate on a question that concerns us all: “Does truly taking our health into account require us to care for all living things as a whole?” To begin the evening, we will explore this approach through the complementary perspectives of our three speakers: - Anthony Gonçalves, Deputy Mayor of Marseille, Delegate for Health - Zoé Le Monnoyer, Project Officer for “One Health” at the Regional Biodiversity and Environment Agency – South Region - Thierry Tatoni, Professor of Ecology at Aix-Marseille University at IMBE, Member of the Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts of Marseille About OSU Institut Pythéas: The Pythéas Observatory of Sciences of the Universe (OSU) is one of the 25 OSUs initiated by the CNRS Earth and Universe Institute. In addition to the CNRS, its other supervisory institutions are Aix-Marseille University, of which it is a component, the Research Institute for Development (IRD) and the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE). Its main missions are to contribute to the advancement of knowledge, promote the research conducted by its teams, participate in university education and share scientific culture. It brings together a support and research unit and seven laboratories in the fields of Earth and Universe sciences. Nearly 1,200 people work there across around a dozen sites in Provence. About the Master’s in Scientific Information and Environmental Mediation (ISME): The ISME master’s program is part of the IMST specialization (Scientific and Technical Information and Mediation) and therefore offers multidisciplinary training, ranging from scientific mediation itself to discovering various technological tools. The courses are highly varied and often take rather unconventional forms. Students are regularly encouraged to reflect on different themes relating to the relationship between science and society, as well as their role as mediators in this constantly changing world. This is a professionally oriented master’s program: classes move away from the traditional model of students taking notes in a lecture hall. The program therefore offers considerable autonomy and creativity, enabling students to develop genuine skills for entering the professional world.
