François Wong
This performance is part of the World Music Centre programme at the Cité de la Musique de Marseille. After living there from 2014 to 2020, poet and storyteller Claire Bastier has returned to Jerusalem several times since 7 October 2023, collecting everyday words and sounds from Israeli and Palestinian communities. Bringing this material home to make interpretation possible, she submits its density to two improvising artists whom the tragedy of everyday life does not petrify, and who decide to approach it through vocal improvisation, for Catherine Jauniaux, and electroacoustics, for François Wong. At the initiative of the latter, this experience attempts to compose—with the pain of war—the possibility of a tomorrow. Art sometimes allows what horror has paralysed to circulate again. Thus hope for the day after is born. Claire Bastier: voice, words Catherine Jaunaux: voice, instruments François Wong: electroacoustic system, spatialisation
