L’AS DES AS SYMPHONIC CONCERT

Beethoven was 30 when he composed his Symphony No. 1 at the dawn of a new century (1800). Still somewhat under Haydn’s wing, yet already completely Beethovenian. Its brilliance, strength, and momentum leave everyone else far behind.

Brahms was over forty when he finally presented his Symphony No. 1, after twenty years of effort. His fear of being compared with Beethoven had been overcome: it was a masterpiece. A cheeky conductor exclaimed: “It’s the Tenth!”
