La Cantatrice chauve

“There is one thing I don’t understand. Why, in the newspaper’s civil-status section, do they always give the age of deceased people and never that of newborns? It makes no sense.” / “And when is there no competition? – On Tuesday, Thursday and Tuesday. – Ah! Three days a week?” / “This morning, when you looked at yourself in the mirror, you didn’t see yourself. – That’s because I wasn’t there yet...”

A magician of language and a musician of text, Eugène Ionesco probably often dines in the authors’ paradise with Jean Tardieu, Raymond Devos and Boby Lapointe.
