About this event

LA FILLE DE MADAME ANGOT CHARLES LECOCQ

Charles Lecocq walked with crutches, but his music had wings. In a competition organized by Offenbach, he won first prize jointly with Georges Bizet.

La Fille de madame Angot is his greatest success. The work is brimming with catchy refrains and finely written couplets. Entire generations sang with a laugh: “There was certainly no point / In changing the government.” At its premiere, the success was explosive and has never waned. Madame Angot is a recurring and colorful character in French vaudeville. She is an “upstart fishwife.” Her daughter is scarcely more refined or virtuous. Engaged to marry Pomponnet the wigmaker, Clairette has her eye on Ange Pitou the songwriter.

The rest awaits you on stage. To be enjoyed without moderation and without ceremony.
