La pastorale Maurel

The pastorale tells of the Provençals’ pilgrimage to Bethlehem. It recounts the announcement of Christ’s birth to the shepherds, “li pastre” (hence “Pastorale”), who then tell the people of the village. Amid astonishment, doubt and hope, each character hesitates, but they all prepare a gift for the newborn and hurry to greet the mother who has just given birth.

The show is performed entirely in Provençal, but even someone from Paris could understand it… The actors’ talent and passion, the staging and the presence of animals all come together to make this Provençal show a universal event that everyone can enjoy.
