The Pass' Vacances in Marseille: free museums, swimming pools and ice rink for children under 12
Returning for the fifth year in a row, the Pass' Vacances has become a much-anticipated event for Marseille families during the Toussaint school holidays. The City of Marseille offers free admission to several municipal facilities upon presentation of proof of age for children. One accompanying adult per child is also admitted free, allowing the whole family to make the most of the two weeks.
The facilities covered by the program offer a wide range of activities, from culture to sports. Among the outings for children in Marseille available through the scheme are municipal museums and their temporary exhibitions, the city’s swimming pools, as well as the ice rink and skatepark at Palais Omnisports de Marseille Grand-Est, with access and equipment rental included. There’s something for everyone, from culture lovers to budding athletes.
This program is part of a policy of accessible leisure activities supported by the Marseille metropolitan area. In Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, Marseille is an example of free leisure offerings for families, with a program designed to let every child explore the city in new ways, whatever their parents’ circumstances.
A rich program of culture, sports and nature for the whole family
In addition to the Pass' Vacances, the City of Marseille offers a full program of activities to keep young and old busy throughout the Toussaint holidays. On the cultural front, a wide range of exhibitions can be visited at municipal museums, the Alcazar and the Archives. Don’t miss the exhibition Sempé, rêver le monde at Château de la Buzine, celebrating the illustrator of Le Petit Nicolas through original drawings, ink works and watercolors. This paid exhibition costs 5 € / 4 € at the reduced rate and is open until March 30, 2027.
For families looking for interactive activities, municipal libraries offer storytelling, workshops and reading clubs throughout the year, all free of charge. The Municipal Archives is also opening its doors for a historical escape game to find a precious 13th-century manuscript hidden during the liberation of Marseille in August 1944. The one-hour sessions take place from October 20 to 30 at 10h30 and 14h30, with reservations required by email at dgac-archives@marseille.fr.
There are plenty of options for sports and nature, too. The Tremplin Sport program offers free supervised activities for ages 6-14: climbing, roller skating, archery... Marseille’s parks and natural areas, educational farms and nature centers also provide great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. More athletic families can try sailing activities at Stade nautique municipal Florence Arthaud, offered at a reduced rate for large families.
