Les Justes

Could Albert Camus have imagined, when writing “The Just” in 1949, that he would plunge us into the realities of today’s world? Can murder be legitimized in defense of a cause, however “just” it may be? “I threw the bomb at your tyranny, not at a man.” (Kaliayev - The Just - Albert Camus) “We begin by wanting justice and end by organizing a police force.” (Skouratov - The Just - Albert Camus) Could Albert Camus have imagined, when writing “The Just” in 1949, that he would plunge us into the realities of today’s world? Can murder be legitimized in defense of a cause, however “just” it may be? Dominique Lamour. Moscow, in 1905, a group of revolutionary socialists plans to assassinate Grand Duke Sergei, who governs the city as a despot, in order to fight the tyranny imposed upon them. Kaliayev, a young terrorist, will throw the bomb... There are laws in theater, and these laws are made to be broken. I often read that such-and-such a play does not respect the laws of theater; I challenge those who are always talking about these laws to define them. If they manage to define the obvious principles we all know, we then realize that neither the Greek tragedians, nor Shakespeare, nor Molière took them into account when necessary. In short, I learned on stage that theater concerns itself with very little: canvas for the sets, and characters and language for the play. Albert Camus. Direction: Dominique Lamour Cast: Michel Adjriou, Raphaël Billot, Henri Fernandez, Anne Moriceau, Bertrand Sanabria, Jérôme Savajols
