Mind the Gap
Mind the Gap for 12 musicians, on May 4 at 20h at Le Zef.
About this event
At the heart of Mind the Gap, eight female composers from France, Portugal, Latvia and Hungary take part in a creative process inspired by the exquisite corpse. Each composes a piece of about six minutes, whose final seconds become the material for the next... This constraint gives rise to a living, constantly evolving process, in which extensions, transformations and reinventions unfold.
The project is rooted in D’un jardin clair by Lili Boulanger, the first woman to win the Prix de Rome, in an arrangement by Lisa Heute, weaving a link between heritage and contemporary creation. The ensemble, conducted by Rémi Durupt, is scored for twelve musicians: flute and piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, strings, piano and percussion...
Beyond its process, Mind the Gap explores the stories of music history and contributes to the recognition of women composers by encouraging the circulation of works and the celebration of women’s cultural heritage in a more open, fairer and more representative ecosystem. Mind the Gap thus becomes a space for passing on knowledge, sharing creative worlds and enjoying great freedom.
