Flutist, viol player and composer, Eva Reiter weaves sensitive connections between the melodies of John Dowland, a major contemporary of Shakespeare, and recent works by composers such as Francesco Filidei, Jürg Frey and Bernhard Gander. A clear, vibrato-free voice, acoustic or electric guitar and viol da gamba with subtle nuances—slightly amplified throughout—give rise to a bewitching patchwork of miniatures: short bittersweet melodies, ostinatos inherited from Purcell, pop songs slowed down a hundredfold, nocturnal confidences. As much a sensitive tribute as a remedy for melancholy, this concert of brief, timeless songs brings the Renaissance and the present, the Baroque and romantic sensibility into dialogue in one shared breath.
