About this event

Exhibition - Tours - Workshops - Educational activities - Cultural program

The wild man and the witch are two major figures of the universal imagination that have been continually revisited by art, literature and cinema, and whose trajectories run parallel. Both appear in the great myths and share the forest as their common birthplace. Through successive metamorphoses, throughout history they have aroused fears and fantasies, fascination and repulsion. In their own ways, they are the symbols—and victims—of the old opposition between culture and nature that still shapes our relationship with the world today.

Like fairy tales or medieval literature, the exhibition NOUS, Sorcière & Sauvage invites you to cross the edge of the woods, that moment of transition into the marvelous, and venture into the forest to meet these two mysterious creatures.

Within an immersive and enchanting exhibition trail, dotted with contemporary works, stories and historical archives, 10 artists explore the different representations of the witch and the wild man through more than 130 works. From darkness to light, they encourage visitors, young and old, to understand how these frightening and unsettling figures have today become reconciling figures and witnesses to humanity’s need to return to the wild and be re-enchanted.
