Featuring Julie Maingonnat Masson and Colin Durup.
Through adventures combining mime, juggling, tap dancing, magic and even a fight against a dragon,
a “noble” knight and his minstrel explore the delicate nuances of mutual respect. A medieval adventure
where the absurd reigns supreme, conveying a subtle message of equality.
This show takes a roundabout path through the traditional tale to explore its blind spots, with
humour, whimsy and an unabashed taste for the absurd. The idea came from the desire to revisit the famous
phrase:
“They lived happily ever after and had lots of children.”
A seemingly harmless sentence, but one that carries an entire normative, often sexist and always
rigid imaginary.
Without lecturing or moralizing, Preu creates a space for play where old conventions are questioned:
the place of women, the weight of expectations, consent, and love as destiny. The show deliberately flirts
with the absurd and the fanciful, somewhere between popular theatre and a barely veiled legacy of the
Monty Python, in the way it seriously plays with absurdity and lopsided heroism.
The result: a show with two layers of meaning, light on the surface but threaded through with profound issues. Young
audiences will find a funny, fast-paced adventure. Adults will recognize, behind the bursts of
laughter, a mirror of their own perceptions.
Because, deep down, Preu is not a parody of the tale. It is an attempt to set its characters free.
