Stage de Partnering et Portés avec Yas et Julien
La Mèche association is delighted to invite you to its first weekend workshop: Contact Improvisation and Partnering & Lifts! Saturday, October 10, with Anne-Gaëlle for her famous Contact Improvisation Toolbox; Sunday, October 11, with Yas & Julien for a partnering and lifts workshop!
There will be another workshop weekend on February 20 and 21; we invite you to take part in both weekends, which will complement each other!
Sunday, October 11 – Partnering with Yas Lammler & Julien Dégremont
Schedule 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. / 2–6 p.m.
Combining play and choreographic movement, bodily sensation, listening and trust work, and acrobatics, this dynamic approach to partnering techniques is based on touch and the concepts of momentum, flight, lifting, and falling. We will focus on lifts in pairs and, through improvisation and choreographic phrases, explore the distribution of roles and weight, as well as counterbalance, leverage, the balance of forces, and many other delights!
You can come with or without a partner. Previous experience in dance, contact improvisation, acrobatics, or circus is required.
In addition to this October workshop, it is possible to book the continuation of the Partnering and Lifts workshop, which will take place on Saturday, February 20!
It is also possible to book the entire October weekend to combine contact improvisation and choreographed contact, by taking part on Saturday (Contact Improvisation Toolbox with Anne-Gaëlle) and Sunday. Artists' biographies:
Yas has a background in political science, and their approach has developed at the intersection of dance, performance, public space, and collective and participatory practices. In their artistic work, Yas combines creation, teaching, improvisation, and collective-intelligence tools, and is interested in relationships between bodies, places, and environments. For several years, Yas has combined acrobatic and embodied dance with a vocal practice (singing, text, ventriloquism) and currently works with multidisciplinary artists Tino Sehgal and Mathilde Monfreux and the SUPERSUEURS company, while co-leading La Mèche association in Marseille and contributing locally to various activist projects.
Julien is a performer and player inspired by dance and circus. He works with elements such as verticality and suspension (rope work, climbing, aerial installations), materials (ropes and boards), practices hand balancing, and develops partnering work combining acrobatic lifts and contact improvisation. He moves through public spaces and performance venues, as well as group and duo work. He has taught circus and passed on his practice for more than 15 years, and co-organizes FIL in Marseille.
Host organization:
La Mèche is a nonprofit association established under the French 1901 law, created in October 2022 in response to our desire to establish a structure focused on the development, production, dissemination, and teaching of activities and practices related to live performance and artistic and cultural creation.
Its artistic direction is shared horizontally by artists Liselotte Singer, Yas Lammler, Anne-Gaëlle Thiriot, and Julien Dégremont, all four of them dancers, choreographers, and educators.
La Mèche is a collective whose mission is to place the body and dance at the heart of the region and to provide a growing, high-quality cultural offering by opening spaces and creating convivial moments around three areas: teaching, creation, and artistic and cultural dissemination. Our main activity is organizing FIL, a regular training session for dancers (and other professional artists) held once a month.
