Program

OCTOBER

► Saturday 24 October: A festive time with Mexican masks
Discover Mexican celebrations through the many masks displayed in the Mexican arts gallery at the Museum of African, Oceanian and Amerindian Arts - MAAOA!
After the tour, make your own paper mask inspired by a jaguar, a peasant, or even an eagle warrior…
Ages 6 and up

► Saturday 31 October: Alebrijes, these fantastic creatures!
Enter the gallery dedicated to Mexican arts at the Museum of African, Oceanian and Amerindian Arts - MAAOA and discover the dreamlike, colorful world of artist Pedro Linares (1906-1992). Let yourself be swept away by his fantastic figures, the alebrijes born from his imagination.
After the tour, children and adults will create their own multicolored chimera using techniques suited to their age (colored paper and shapes to assemble for younger children, or cut paper for older children).

NOVEMBER

► Saturday 7 November: Yarn paintings
Explore the gallery dedicated to Mexican arts and discover the world of the Wixárika people through their exceptional paintings made with wool yarn!
After the tour, try your hand at their unique technique for making these paintings.
Ages 9 and up

► Saturday 14 November: Sketching at the MAAOA
Come discover the collections of the Museum of African, Oceanian and Amerindian Arts - MAAOA and bring out your inner artist! Sharpen your eye and your drawing skills as you learn sketching techniques. Find inspiration in colorful objects, geometric and figurative shapes, or even stories! The tour includes time for sketching from life, directly in the museum galleries.
Ages 9 and up

► Saturday 21 November: Sandroing
This tour invites you to discover Vanuatu, an Oceanian country from which objects in the Museum of African, Oceanian and Amerindian Arts - MAAOA originate. You will learn more about Vanuatu's cultural practices, such as the organization of society into grades and sand drawing, known as sandroing.
After the tour, try sandroing by recreating stylized patterns of fruit and animals.
Ages 9 and up

► Saturday 28 November: Arizona dolls
As part of the Cultural and Artistic Discovery Days, the Museum of African, Oceanian and Amerindian Arts - MAAOA invites little ones to discover carved dolls from Arizona. Stories and games await them and their families as they have their first encounter with the museum's collections.
Ages 12 months and up

 

DECEMBER

► Saturday 5 December: Yarn paintings

► Saturday 12 December: The art of weighing gold dust
Once used by gold merchants in the Ashanti Kingdom, located in what is now Ghana, their weights resemble figurines: you can recognize an antelope, a sword, a horseman, fish... They embody proverbs and provide a way to interact with a diverse clientele. Take inspiration from them to shape your own weights in clay!
