About this event

Founded by the curators of the Musée Borély in 1893, the library of the Musée d’Archéologie Méditerranéenne is the oldest library of the Musées de Marseille. It preserves a heritage collection of around 700 documents: books, journals, posters, drawings and registers, including the famous Description de l’Égypte (Panckoucke edition, 1820-1830) and the unique copy of the Livre d’or du château de Bonneveine (1814-1856).

This heritage tour, featuring around ten precious works brought out of storage, traces the history of the library and its museum, as well as the history of archaeology and Egyptology. The finest plates are presented in an intimate setting, with opportunities to talk with the public.

• Adults and children aged 10 and up • Reservations by email: bdubost@marseille.fr • Please arrive 5 min before the stated time at the Vieille Charité reception/ticket desk • Meet at the Library, 1st floor

Accessible to people with reduced mobility: The archaeology museum library is not accessible to people with reduced mobility, but another location within the Vieille Charité can be selected to provide the presentation for visitors with reduced mobility.
