From this investigation, Julie Bertin retained the stories of seven women and men of different nationalities for her production. A blend of seven uprisings, whose stories, carried by an equal number of performers, unfold in fragments and sometimes intertwine. What drives someone to change their life, to change direction from one moment to the next? Certainly an inner earthquake, an irrepressible act that breaks with a situation that has become unbearable. Perhaps a personal uprising, violent and torn from the life that came before, forming the founding act of the life to come. Playwright and director Julie Bertin is drawn to individual and collective memories, archives and recent history. She met with around a hundred people who had experienced an inner upheaval, in France and elsewhere. Spread across the floor, earth, and stretched across the back, a piece of cotton. This simple stage arrangement evolves with the words, memories and places. Dance enters the picture when words fail or emotion overflows. Living tableaux, connected by an invisible thread, unfold in the same fictional territory, yet one full of promise…
