Two artists combine music, theater and ritual to tell the stories of memories obscured by colonization. Lamine has just moved in. In his building, he quickly befriends Raymond, his neighbor on the fifth floor, who is also of African descent. As the two men go down to the cellar to fetch a bottle, they accidentally find themselves locked in there all night. Trapped in this underground place and left to their own devices, they begin to open up. Memories resurface, bringing back to life a history that colonization concealed for far too long. Drawing on archives and their personal stories, Lamine Diagne and Raymond Dikoumé recount, with subtlety, emotion and humor, their journeys between Senegal, Cameroon and France. Directed by Jessica Dalle, their stories emerge in a set made of cardboard boxes that contain their memories.
