With Léna Bréban and Philippe Torreton, Beaumarchais’s play rekindles the fires of love. Basile would like to marry Marceline, who would like to marry Figaro, who would like to marry Suzanne: it sounds a lot like a Brazilian telenovela, yet this little game of musical love chairs officially dates back to 1784. Adapted and directed by Léna Bréban, energized by Philippe Torreton, the play regains all its sharpness in denouncing relations of social and sexist domination and highlighting the question of consent. These are all themes that invited laughter in the 18th century and resonate in a completely different way today. Figaro here, Figaro there; Me Too here, Me Too there. Text by Beaumarchais Adaptation and direction: Léna Bréban. With Philippe Torreton, Marie Vialle, Éric Bougnon, Grétel Delattre, Salomé Dienis Meulien, Catherine Allegret, Jean-Jacques Moreau, Pascal Vannson, Antoine Prud’homme deLa Boussinière, Jean Yves Roan
