Conceived as a sweeping humorous fresco made up of six shows, the Eight Kings (Our Presidents) series portrays the eight presidents of the French Fifth Republic, from Charles de Gaulle to Emmanuel Macron. By transforming these political figures into theatre characters, director Léo Cohen Paperman revisits our electoral history, both profound and delightfully laughable. October 4, 2058, exactly one hundred years to the day after the birth of the Fifth Republic. At the head of the state from 2017 to 2027 and then from 2040 to 2043, Emmanuel Macron never truly withdrew from French politics and wants to run for president for a fourth time. To understand this irrepressible desire to return to power, he submits to the Binaural Psychoanalysis process, a revolutionary therapeutic approach. Equipped with headphones, the audience follows this intimate session, in which images, sounds and projections revive a buried memory. Whispering in our ear, the man tells us about the future and, in a rather mischievous game of mirrors, reflects our present back to us. Between wild psychoanalysis, science fiction and tragic farce, this funny and cruel face-to-face dissects a toxic relationship: that of a man and a country unable to leave each other.
