Les Procès du siècle – À notre humanité ! Saison 6
23 dates · 14 Nov 2026 – 13 Mar 2027 · Times varyAfternoon
About this event
What if we questioned together the struggles, challenges and failings of contemporary societies through a mock trial bringing together experts, witnesses and evidence from the Mucem collections?
This season of Les Procès du siècle examines our ability to (re)build humanity in the face of the climate, authoritarian, individualistic and technological perils multiplying around the world. This year brings something new: discover “La parole est à la rue: a street interview by Nicole Ferroni,” presented as a surprise at selected sessions!
A series of events devised and produced by the Mucem and moderated by Rokhaya Diallo, Nora Hamadi, Jade Lindgaard or François Saltiel.
Program
Workshop - The Commission of Inquiry A workshop for reflection and public speaking, connected with Les Procès du siècle. Multiple dates Led, depending on the date, by Grégoire Ingold (stage director) and Fabienne Jullien (actor), or Carla Azoulay Zerah (actor) and Loïc Renard (actor). In this workshop, open to everyone, participants explore ideas, bring different points of view into dialogue and embody different experiences. Over half a day, they take up the subject of the next Procès du siècle and learn together to develop arguments and testimonies, some of which may be presented at the hearing and debated at the following Procès du Siècle. Combining the art of persuasion and theater, the Commission of Inquiry brings a civic counterpoint to the debates, because the issues facing our world concern us all.
How can we manage to talk to one another? In a polarized world saturated with words, is dialogue still possible? A session moderated by Nora Hamadi. With Mathilde Imer, carpenter and ecological activist, and Frédéric Taddeï, journalist. With the participation of Vincent Giovannoni, chief heritage curator and head of the Performing Arts department. In the age of the internet and social media, words have never circulated so easily or quickly. Anyone can make their voice and opinions heard on a large scale in record time. But do these voices meet in a polarized, fractured society? What about dialogue and debate? Can we still really manage to talk to each other, even when we disagree? With the French presidential election just months away, and divisions and tensions affecting France as well as the United States, Russia and Colombia, how can we create a fruitful debate? Should we stop making so much noise? And perhaps learn to listen to one another?
News and media: what happened to pluralism? How can we ensure pluralism in our media, an unquestionable pillar of our democratic values? A session moderated by François Saltiel. With journalist Fabrice Arfi and Nathalie Sonnac, professor of information and communication sciences. With the participation of Mireille Jacotin, chief heritage curator and head of the Public Life department at the Mucem. In the age of social media, digital platforms and 24-hour news channels, we might expect an abundance of information to go hand in hand with a diversity of viewpoints. And yet. The media sector is currently experiencing crises that affect the principles of independence and pluralism and raise questions about its ability to protect our democratic values. Concentration in the hands of a few private players, criticism and attacks on public broadcasting, digital ideological strategies… How can we protect a diverse media landscape that remains a central pillar of our democracies?
Child sexual abuse, from isolated cases to systemic crimes Sexual violence against children: facing reality and taking action. A session moderated by Rokhaya Diallo. With Marie Grimaud, lawyer, and Frédéric Pommier, journalist. With the participation of Caroline Chenu, research and collections officer at the Mucem. Abuse in schools and after-school institutions, incest within families, organized networks, crimes and assaults… Sexual violence against children is increasingly in the news. The growing number of revelations and the scale of the facts are as shocking as they are alarming. Long treated as a series of unrelated news stories, this violence calls for us to consider the system connecting it and question the mechanisms that allow it to continue. Through victims’ testimonies, journalism, literature and cinema, society is beginning to face this reality. How do we move from shock to prevention, from the disclosure of facts to the effective protection of children? And above all, how can we understand and combat the systemic mechanisms that perpetuate this violence?
Human trafficking and servitude: an ineradicable evil? What are the realities of modern slavery, and how can these forms of exploitation be fought? A session moderated by Nora Hamadi. With Cécile Allegra, journalist and filmmaker, and Alizée Depierre, sociologist. With the participation of Hélia Paukner, heritage curator and head of the Contemporary Art department at the Mucem. Human trafficking, forced labor, cyber-slavery, forced marriage, child exploitation, domestic slavery… An estimated 50 million people around the world are victims of modern slavery, and they remain largely invisible. On the occasion of the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery on December 2, this session of Les Procès du siècle takes stock of slavery’s continued existence and the roots of this taboo that the contemporary world must confront. After the discussion, join us at the Mucem Bookshop table for a book signing.
