Romain and Sabah discover that they have things in common, but their love is prevented by the weight of prejudice and disrupted by the reality weighing on their imagination. This play immerses the audience in the characters' questions about everyday racism. Romain and Sabah are 9 years old. They are neighbors. He, a loner, gallops on his wooden horse; she hunts bison as a Sioux warrior. Their meeting weaves a strong bond. But their parents violently oppose their budding love. A contemporary echo of Romeo and Juliet, this show subtly confronts us with questions of racism and love for others. The daily lives of the two children are permeable to adult life. They absorb it and reintegrate its codes, preconceptions, dogmas and symbols. The immersive, stripped-back staging carries us into the characters' sensations and imagination. The performers move energetically from the stage to the auditorium seats. A few branches symbolize the forest, while light defines the spaces and emphasizes Fabrice Melquiot's poetic language. This show subtly illustrates the quest for identity and the weight of social and cultural affiliations in emotional choices.
