Invited to the Collège de France in 2025 to deliver his inaugural lecture for the chair “The Invention of Europe through Languages and Cultures,” Wajdi Mouawad drew _The Shadow Within That Writes_ from it, a stage adaptation in which thought becomes theater. Alone on stage, he delivers a moving meditation on writing, exile, memory, violence and what, within each of us, resists knowledge. Between lecture, theater and poetry, this performance by one of the greatest authors and directors of our time gives substance to words of rare intensity, questioning both our relationship to creation and to our history. _For those who choose to lean toward writing, he learns—and sometimes the hard way—that just as falling into the void cannot be learned, writing cannot be taught either..._ Wajdi Mouawad Ages 16 and up. This performance addresses themes related to trauma, violence and war that may be distressing to some viewers.
