L’ombre en soi qui écrit

Invited in 2025 to the Collège de France to deliver his inaugural lecture on the chair “The Invention of Europe through Languages and Cultures,” Wajdi Mouawad drew L’ombre en soi qui écrit from it, a theatrical adaptation in which thought becomes theatre. Alone on stage, he gives voice to a powerful meditation on writing, exile, memory, violence and what, within each of us, resists knowledge. Between lecture, theatre and poetry, this performance by one of the greatest writers and directors of our time gives physical presence to words of rare intensity, questioning our relationship both to creation and to our history.
