Performance in French Sign Language and spoken French. + French surtitles If François Gremaud’s theater is deeply physical, it owes much to his brother Christian, who is Deaf. Mon Frère was born from a long-held but long-contained desire: to give him a voice. By weaving together three parallel stories – that of Sign Language, that of Christian and that of the creation of the show – Mon Frère seeks to be at once a political act, an artistic act and an act of love. For Christian Gremaud, taking his place in a hearing world was by no means obvious. He grew up facing the violence and exclusion that this entails. Initially driven by a desire for justice, Mon Frère goes beyond testimony to become a place of sharing, an anthem to equality, an experience combining poetry, humor and the expressive power of French Sign Language. On a bare stage, the two brothers enter into resistance, sharing their love and appetite for life; the show tells of deafness from within and reveals another voice – a visual, physical and vibrant voice.
