Nouvelles Rencontres d'Averroès

The Nouvelles Rencontres d’Averroès now carry on the tradition, produced and organized by the association Des livres comme des idées. These “Nouvelles Rencontres” are founded first and foremost on the desire to keep ideas alive, spark debate and encourage citizenship. The aim is to bring together desire and curiosity, and to recognize the need to keep gathering in rooms, around tables and on stages, to think collectively, be moved and talk to one another. To look at the Other as a possibility rather than a threat. To think, tirelessly, of the Mediterranean as a sounding board whose clamor, murmurs and possibilities we must learn to hear.

In the face of such grave times, we do not take on this “passing of the torch” lightly. At the same time, we will strive to carry it out in the spirit so aptly described by poet André Velter when he speaks of the Mediterranean: “with breath and without borders.”
