In this play by Harold Pinter, brought up to date by Tatiana Vialle, love stories are told against the grain… and Swann Arlaud is completely in his element. It all begins at the end. Emma and Jerry meet in a bar two years after their breakup. The young woman tells her former lover that she has left her husband, having first confessed their affair. The story of this love triangle then rewinds before our eyes, moving backward through deception and lies, manipulation and cowardly compromises. Swann Arlaud as the wounded lover and Marc Arnaud as the betrayed husband annoy us as much as they move us. As for Marie Kauffmann, she shines in the role of the wronged woman who emancipates herself. Backward or forward, these three delight us from beginning to end.
